What is Groupon

You may be quite familiar with hearing about Groupon, or the concept of the daily deals. So, what is this Groupon we constantly hear about, what can it do for you and how does it offer such amazing deals?

The Start

What is Groupon - Groupon is a relatively new concept and began in Chicago in 2008. However, spread to the UK and pretty much worldwide in the following years. So much so that there is now a Groupon for most cities and for large city's individual parts of these cities.

You may also have noticed there are also a number of other daily deal's sites on offer. The likes of KGB Deals, Living Social and City deals, as well as a number of smaller sites are very common. These all came to prevalence after Groupon, thanks, mainly to its popularity, though do offer similar deals.

What does it do?

Well, Groupon, which now includes Citydeal, offer discounts of up to 70 per cent on the price of everything from beauty treatments to clothing and other items. These deals mean that as a consumer you can save a substantial amount of money on items, you would not usually be able to afford.

The significant percentages of money saved by consumers has seen the popularity of these sites just mushroom. Daily deal sites have become popular for one obvious reason - they offer savings on luxury pastimes in a time of recession.

How do they do it?

Groupon and other daily deal sites contact retailers, or are contacted by retailers. These retailers are willing to offer them daily deals for a significantly reduced percentage for a number of reasons.

Advertising

Groupon has hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people each day receiving its daily deals newsletters and for many people it's one of the first things they do in the morning. This means it has a huge advertisement base, even if people don't purchase items, you get the benefits of advertising.

Business

Businesses generally sell their goods at cost, or slightly above the price. In the case of things such as treatments that is a substantial figure that even at a reduced cost is covered. Even with clothing where there is a 70 per cent mark up this is the case.

Business gives Groupon, or other daily deal's sites a percentage of the income they receive from these sales, though there is another factor, they depend on for making money - return sales.

Return Business

By offering a quality service these businesses hope to drum up a good opinion of their business and then receive return business at full price from happy customers. This return business is where they make their money and can ensure that their business become more successful.

For the customer, this is also a positive as it means that the business will perform to a very high standard as this is their chance to impress. This will then mean an impressed customer will be happy enough to return and then pay for the repeat business. Groupon will obviously have exited at this stage; however, it is not uncommon for business to decide on using the daily deal's sites on a regular basis due to the positive effects of the first effort.

In the case of many companies, they offer services that require return business, or will get customers interested in a long-term basis. They may also do things and then suggest from their expert advice how you can get a better service, or where problems lie with the existing scenario. This for the customer still means a good deal as they get a cheaper deal, while also are happy having received a positive service.

Daily deals offer both business and customer a very positive experience, while also mean that the value and competition in the daily deal's sector is stronger and stronger. This of course means better long-term value.

Variety is the Spice of Life with CityDeal

One of the best things about daily deals from providers such as CityDeal.ie is the way in which the variety of deals on offer can inspire or motivate us to try something new.

In fact, surely that's the point of the daily deals provider (aside from making great savings)? They offer you the opportunity to 'try before you buy' at a heavily discounted rate, in the hope that you will continue on as a customer or client of theirs in the future.

If you're in the mood for trying something new and exciting, but don't quite know exactly what, then take a look at D3ALS.ie. This fantastic website lists all of your relevant deals, so that you can see at a glance which appeal to you and which don't.

Forget spending time scrolling through deal after deal on website after website. With D3ALS all of the information is laid out clearly in front of you, so you can save time as well as saving money.

Lets take a look at some recent city deals to inspire you, and perhaps give you some ideas for new hobbies, interests, shops or adventures. They do say, after all, that a change is as good as a rest:

One Week of Golf Tuition with PGA Professional at Beirth Academy of Golf

This amazing deal consisted of nine golfing lessons across three locations, conducted by qualified PGA professional Kevin Beirth. Valid at three different locations, Swords, Templeogue and Newcastle, this flexible offer afforded the opportunity to improve your drive, approach, play or putt - or all four!

Perhaps you regularly play another sport and fancy adding another string to your bow. Or you play golf but want to improve your game. Whether you're a beginner or an improver this great deal will see you wielding that club with increased skill, grace and power.

Daily deals which relate to sports and fitness are fantastic as they allow you to try out a class, sport or activity without committing yourself to it completely. Many sports need an expensive initial outlay, and committing to golf would see you paying for clubs and accessories, green fee's and clothing. A daily deal like the one above means that you can give the sport a go and see how you take to it before investing time and money into playing regularly.

Personalised One Day Image Consultation and Wardrobe Overhaul

Now this deal is certainly something that you would never think of investing in usually, but when you think about it, it certainly makes sense. Taking advantage of this service could prove a wise investment as, once you know what clothes suit you, you will save money that would have been wasted on unflattering purchases.

Not only will this daily deal make you look and feel better about yourself instantly, but it will also continue to boost your self-esteem as you put into practice the tips learnt in your make up and skin care lessons.

So why not allow a qualified stylish, personal shopper and image consultant give your image a boost? While it might be a service that you had never previously considered, it could be the best investment you ever make.

Lake Garda: Three, Five or Seven Night Stay with Flights

Now this recent getaways deal to Lake Garda, Italy is merely one example among dozens of exciting deals on holidays and mini-breaks. City Deals can make previously unaffordable trips affordable for many, and the range of destinations is varied.

Offers have included villa holidays to Gran Canaria and Tuscany, as well as luxury mini-breaks closer to home at luxury hotels in Dublin, County Carlow and County Meath.

Let city deals inspire you with fantastic offers on travel, and quench you wanderlust for less.

We can all get stuck in a rut from time to time, but D3ALS.ie is here to help. Boasting page after page of inspiring daily deals, including holidays, mini breaks, classes, beauty treatments, tuition, wine tasting evenings, meals out and much more, there's a daily deal to motivate and inspire everyone.

Why not vow to try something new every month - even if it's only a new hair cut or colour using one of the hairdressing offers that regularly crop up? You'll have something exciting to look forward to each month, without worrying about the cost.

Get ready for life to become so much more interesting!

After a quick bite and a coffee at the Grafton Street institution that is Bewley's Grafton Street Café it's time to hit the shops in style. Grafton Street is one of Dublin's most prominent shopping districts, boasting a great mix of popular department stores and high street favourites.

The Stephen's Green Shopping Centre is located at the very top of Grafton Street and features 100's of fantastic shops under one roof. You could very easily spend all afternoon in the Stephen's Green centre but it would be a shame to miss out on exploring all of the independent boutiques and vintage shops that Dublin has to offer.

The Powerscourt shopping centre is one cultural highlight, with some of Dublin's best fashion designers selling their garments in this beautiful Georgian shopping centre. You'll also find two art galleries and regular piano recitals, making Powerscourt a shopping experience with a difference.

Offering two people a starter, main course and a glass of wine each, for a mere €25, this deal meant that you could indulge in traditional Italian pizzas, pastas and meat dishes for much less than you would usually budget for a great meal out.

Once you've enjoyed your perfect day, made all the more perfect by your stash of great money-saving daily deals vouchers, don't return back to earth with a bump. Allow yourself to keep floating on that pleasure cloud for a touch longer by handing over some of your scheduled chores to a professional.

One recent citydeal offered weary individuals a washing or dry-cleaning service from Wash to Iron, with half off. The choice was between a small or large bag of washing - returned washed and dried and ready for wear - or the dry cleaning of four items, making you ready for the week ahead without having had to lift a finger!

How to Go Green and Make some Money

There are two ways to have more money, either spend less, or make more. These two can really ensure you are that bit better off and can afford some of life's little luxuries. One of the most popular ways to save is with daily deals sites and a great way to earn is by starting a new business.

Though there are numerous ways to begin a new business, one of the most common in this day and age is green business. The idea that one man's rubbish can be another man's treasure, is one that rings very true in this case. This has led us to compile a number of tips to aid your money saving and making agenda, while doing some good along the way. We've given you green tips in business citydeals and a wide number of other ways to make ends meet in an environmentally friendly manner.

Rubbish

Many people get a little excited when they get some new goods and can just blindly throw the old item out. In many cases these old items can make someone else very happy and can be used by other people. Old CRT televisions are a case in point, with many throwing them out when they get a new TV, especially due to the digital changeover - what a waste.

The number of perfectly good TVs of this type being dumped is hard to believe. So, why not stick up a notice in your local shop offering the TV for a few pounds here and there. It may make you a little bit of pocket money and also make someone else very happy. Clothing is also a common item that falls into this category. With numerous companies paying for clothing by the kilo, you can afford to empty out that attic full of 80s clothes and make some money too.

Recycling

One of the greatest irritations of recycling bins, is the fact they are often full to the brim well before recycling day. This often happens as recycling is only collected every second week and so builds up. Some people in areas try and utilise this to make some extra money and provide a green bin empty service for larger items, bringing the large excess to the local recycling area for those on their street. This prevents people dumping recyclable goods in the landfill bin when it's full and also allows you to make a little extra money by charging for each load you bring away.

Scrap

Scrap may have a bad name, but there is plenty of money to be made in this area. By asking people if you can take their scrap metal and bringing it to a scrap dealer you can make plenty of money. Scrap is bought by the tonne and some metals are worth a lot more than others, meaning you can get a large amount of money for something that is made from the right kind of metal.

People getting new extensions, or undergoing building work can be a great provider of this form of material. As can they be wonderful at providing items that can be sold to architectural salvage yards. These yards often pay large amounts of money for the right goods and so you can make some cash from having a keen eye, while recycling goods for use again.

Green Daily Deals

Another great way to save money and also stay green is daily deals sites such as City Deals
often offer people discounts in being parts of car sharing schemes in cities. These schemes allow people the use of a car when they require, but mean they don't have to pay for a car when they don't need one. This is an efficient and smart manner in which to own a car, if you're conscious of being green and only require one intermittently. This can save you money and also allow you to be green.
