What is groupon?

The retro look is one that's become very prevalent in the recent years. Mixing the old and the new is in fashion and why not, there are some beautiful pieces for the home from the past that no modern items can touch.

Those of us with an eye for detail will be able to easily mix the older and the newer to great effect in our homes, kitchens and bedrooms and create a great talking point. The contemporary offers plenty, but so does the past as you often see from the likes of city deals, which often have a lot of retro orientated items, alongside newer ones.

New, but Strangely Old

The great thing about the retro home wear that citydeal and others offer is that you purchase something that looks old, and perhaps even is old, yet still has all the benefits of a new item. Unlike, when you buy an old retro item from eBay or a story, you are getting something warranted. In fact, in the case of some classics, they have been slightly improved upon, to rid them of their original faults, meaning you are getting a better item, than even the original, when it was first released.

Modern production techniques and materials, make the ones of the past fade into the background and make for more efficient, stronger items. You may find that retro home wear is also lighter and more portable for such reasons.

Style

Purchasing the retro can be a case of stamping your style on a place. People often love to allow themselves to be distinguished from others and are unhappy with the modern design, which they often consider sterile and no up to much. Retro home wear is often a lot more flamboyant and exciting as a piece, than the contemporary. Purchasing a retro piece allows you the aesthetics of old and also to choose from a long design history that doesn't incorporate just now. This can mean, in terms of style, you really spice up your home and pay tribute to the design greats of all the decades previously.

Forever Stylish

Just because the retro is in style, doesn't mean like many contemporary items it will look stale in time to come. They say style is permanent, but fashion is temporary and this is what could be said about such goods. These items, whether new, or originals, may last for years, if not decades to come and still look in place and also suitable for your home.

The permanence of such items, in a world where fashion changes by the season, means they are often an investment. So, when you tell people where you got your retro items in time, you may hear the question 'what is Groupon?' This will probably be down to the move away from great daily deals sites. However, for now let's make the most of them.

The satisfaction gotten from such items won't fade, like it will with others and so is one of the great reasons to purchase them. When you're looking to change that minimalist chair, you'll be quite happy to keep the retro one you got from citydeal and it will still wear just as well as it did a decade previously.

Think

By considering what you think will fit in with your home and taking time to investigate the great designers of the past, you are sure to pick up some great designs on the cheap. Having a little knowledge in this area and knowing what you want puts you far ahead of most other people who go out there and look for furniture.

By investing sometime into the classics and understanding what will last and stay in style, you are sure yo make some good investments and double save, as you are buying not only at a low cost from city deals, but also for well into the long term.

Looking after Your Wool

The sad feeling when you come home and are confronted with a new wool jumper in small teddy bear size is something that is a shock and a in no way a positive - even if we love our teddy very much. Woollen jumpers and clothing for that matter has a tendency to get right out o shape and end up unusable. So, how do you stop your wool turning into a bin liner?

Wash?

Wool doesn't necessarily need that much washing and unlike other manmade materials and cotton does not need cleaning often. In fact, just airing out items can really give them a new lease of life and ensure they are smelling great again. If you do need to clean your wool, try and give it a spot cleaning. This allows you to protect the clothing and prevents wool items from being damaged by detergents. This will mean more wear, with just a little better care.

Water

If you do have to wash wool, use cold water as warm water can shrink your wool items and cause it to become unusable. Manchester deals sites have some great woollen clothing options now and again.

Spot Clean

If you must clean you wool, try and not to make your Merino with some hard soap, or detergent. Try and rid as much of a stain through brushing and the use of cold water. Then when the wool is clean, then just air it and it should be perfect. Wool cleans itself through airing and the results are surprising.

Detergent

If you must purchase detergent, use a wool friendly cleaner. There are plenty of these sorts of cleaners out there and lessen the damage to the clothing. Hand soap, or baby soap are also great for cleaning wool and are light enough not to cause damage to the fibres. Mix them with lavender oil, which is also great for woollen garments. Use as little soap as possible in such a case to limit the damage to the wool

Wash

One important thing! Never rub wool against other wool as you are sure to damage the fibres and felt the item. Avoid the other factors mentioned before - heat, detergent and agitation. You should then have your jumper forever, without any problems.

Washing Machine

It is possible to place a woollen jumper in a washing machine, though the risk is always there that you will destroy it and have to look through another Internet deals site for another one to replace it.

If you must wash it in the machine. Then allow the drum to fill, but make sure it is cold water. Mix in the soap and put the wool in the drum and let the drum spin it for a while. Then turn off the machine and spin the jumper a few times and let it refill and rinse. This often however is more trouble than just cleaning by hand and also places the wool under risk.

Drying

When you have to dry the wool, place it flat on a towel in the shape it should be in and let it dry. Beforehand, squeeze the jumper dry in a not to rough manner. After this is done, leave it to dry flat and it should be clean and ready to wear.

Keeping wools from getting damaged is a delicate process that ironically revolves around you have to not really look after them at all. By cleaning your wool seldom, allowing it plenty of air and spot cleaning with light detergents or none at all you should manage to increase its lifespan. Fortunately, this is also good for the environment and great for keeping wool in good shape. Following the above tips should mean you have clothing that lasts, for the long term.

Your York deals sites and other such Internet places provide some great deals of up to 70 per cent off these items and can see you shod out for less.

Tan is also great for the pre-holiday malaise and means you can arrive and sit beside the pool, with no one knowing any better to whether you actually were tanned beforehand. For those of us who of course are a paler pallor than others this is a little bit of a course a god send and will have us dancing to the sun deity, before we even set foot on sunny soils.

Don't squint in disgust though, people who have had them will testify to loosing numerous pounds, having flatter stomachs and also just feeling greater. Best footballers in the world

We're probably entering some sort of dangerous territory here, however it has to be done for the sake of debate - we're going to name the best footballers in the world. For those of you preparing yourself for the argument in the pub, this one will be settled by the time you read to the bottom of the page - so be both relieved and a little saddened.

Gerd Muller

The amazingly pace ridden German has to be in the top five of our greatest footballers of all time. With a goal scoring record like his, who could ever dispute his place. With an amazing 68 goals in 62 internationals, 365 in 427 German League games and an international record of 66 in 74 European Football games, Muller was the highest scoring player of his day and didn't even look like a footballer.

Short, squat and a little strange looking, he didn't have an amazing top speed, but could accelerate over 10 yards past anyone and was an amazing winner of the ball in the air. He also could turn on a penny, as they say and as you can see from the record was an amazingly instinctive goal scorer. Fortunately, if you wish to see a football match daily deals sites such as KGB deals offer people low cost tickets for games - it might not be Gerd Muller you're watching, but it's a great afternoon out.

Johan Cruyff

The Dutch football legend was footballer of the year a thundering three times and the player of the Century by the IFFHS. He came second in the same poll over the world - just behind Pele - not too embarrassing. The man's speed, ability and technical skill was astounding and his vision unparallel. He could pass a ball seventy yards blindfolded - well maybe not, but he might be able to. As a coach he is also seen as a true winner and motivator.

Franz Beckenbauer

Managing and winning in a World Cup team is no ill achievement and 'Der Kaiser' managed it in 1974 and 1990. Having played for Bayern Munich for most of his career, Beckenbauer won three European Cups with them and won the European Footballer of the year twice. He is seen as the greatest footballer to come from Germany of all time and one of the games greats - hence his position on the list.

Maradona

The little Argentinean brings a smile to many faces and is seen as a loveable rogue by some, while disdained by others. Maradona however is a player who undoubtedly has to be in everyone's list of their greats. From the Hand of God, to huge pay checks, to cocaine addiction, to management - oh and the two goals against England (ahem) the man is one for whom the world was never boring and though KGB.co.uk won't show him up when you use them for football tickets, he is someone always recalled in any football talk.

Pele

'Who' you may ask - JOKE! Pele, or Black Pearl as he was known is probably the greatest footballer of all time and with a total of 1280 goals in the game he has been named Athlete of the 20th Century by the 1999 Olympic Committee. His fame comes before him, for example his 1970 World Cup winning jersey was sold for nearly quarter of a million dollars in 2002 and he is just renowned as one of the greats.

We'd imagine with KGB deals you could probably get better value than that for a football, shirt but value is in the eye of the beholder.

We will have to wait if the likes of Lionel Messi can surpass, Pele and others and in time it will be more than likely the little Argentinean is appearing on every list throughout the world - only time will tell.

Great Car Accessories for your Auto

The humble car accessory is something that can be a laughing stock, or a perfectly functional piece that can add a lot to the use of your automobile. We've decided that a look through the good of the world of the car accessory, may be of benefit to many.

Unfortunately, like anything taste is often subtle, while the opposite of taste - let's call it distaste is a lot more obvious. Fortunately, we're focusing on ways to make your life all the more enjoyable and your car all the more attractive.

Sat Nav

The sat nav, the greatest and the most logical of all car accessories known to man, is a great attribute to all and something that we are now nearly all familiar with. Just prop this device up in the front of your car and watch it almost drive you to your destination - perhaps a little too eager. However, there is no doubt about it; the sat nav has saved numerous marriages and so created many happier families. Kgb offers these quite often and they can really make your travels a whole lot easier and in fact you may even have one on your phone.

Tyre Kits

From electronic pumps, to repair kits, having anything that can make a tyre change easier, or prevent having to do it in the first place is all right by us. Replacing the poor kit you get with your car and maybe investing in a new torch is something that can often make those rainy nights in nightmarish scenarios a little easier. While having some form of adhesive to fill in the leak for a period can allow you to limp on and get home. These are all things we often don't have the foresight to buy, but believe us, you may need them.

Security

From alarm systems, to immobilisers, being able to be satisfied your car will be there when you come out is very important. Kgbdeals and others may often offer such systems to people allowing them the peace of mind they will want with a large investment like a car. Insurance is all great, but when you have to go through a scenario like this, it's something we often find more harrowing than forking out for a new automobile.

Technology

We're always happy with getting some new in car technology and fortunately there is a load of it out there at the moment and often at quite low prices. From tablet holders, to great sound systems it is easily possible to turn your car into a paradise of entertainment that verges on competing with the cinema. KGBdeal often provides people with the chance to get any number of these great car entertainment additions at quite a low cost price and so pimp their car out in a fun and practical way.

Kids

Kids will love the whole range of entertainment that you can now place in your car. In fact, we're jealous when we think about cassettes getting stuck in or parent's cars when we were little. Other great additions include gaming consoles, in car DVDs and all sorts of comfortable seats that would make a racing car drive jealous.

Alloys

Though, we're against the whole racer boy thing, a new pair of alloys can be a great addition to a car and really add a lot in design style to a auto. Purchasing wisely means you have something you can transfer to another car and also gives an element of the racing pedigree to your car. Low profile tyres and wheels make a car all the racier and will see you the envy of others driving about.

Keep an eye out on deals sites such as KGB Deals and you never know the reductions on these items you will find.

The New iPad Reviewed

So, what would we say the biggest news of this month was, well the release of the new iPad as it was called, we'd imagine. For an item that's only been around for a few years, the iPad has really come a long way and is amazing in that it was created supposedly as a piece of technology to spite Microsoft.

The tablet computer is something that we've mostly all found a use for and the numerous Groupon UK deals around the device in the recent week are testament to this. Apple products create that amazing sense for some like the coming of the messiah of sorts, though to most this does all seem a bit bizarre and weird.

Saying that the new iPad is something that's set the world alight and has seen unprecedented news coverage. So, what's so great about the new Apple product and what makes it different enough for a smorgasbord of Groupon deals to revolve around it?

Retina Screen

The iPad's new retina screen will make many of us who were a little disappointed with the original and iPad 2's screen's, delighted. Though the technology originated on the iPhone 4, it's taken until now for it to come with the 9.7in display. However, with over 3m pixels (1m more than a HDTV), it's no slouch visually. With a resolution of 2048 by 1536, some have said the screen looks like 'glowing paper' - we'd imagine that's a positive thing.

Increased Processing Power

The Apple iPad comes with the new A5X processor, which Apple claim has four times the power of the Tegra 3 chip, in use on other tablets. We're not sure if this is completely true as no one's seen bench marks yet, though we're pretty sure it'll muster up more power than the previous iPad, which was by no means slow. The A5X is said to have an increasingly powerful GPU - so for those who love games and films, the iPad 3 is looking great.

Camera

One of the disappointments with Apple products is often the camera and the iPad 2 was no different. Fortunately, Apple has upped the stakes with the new 5mp camera which can shoot HD video and though the tablet's a bit big for a camera, it's a welcome improvement. Suggestions so far are that it is in fact the same camera that originated in the iPhone 4, which would explain a lot as the outlying specs are the same. The iPhone 4 camera was pretty okay, though nothing to write home about and how many of us use our tablet for photos?

Email Dictation

The device also comes with email dictation - a great thing if you weren't expecting Siri voice control. Dictation of emails and messages is done with the touch of a key, once you're not too self-conscious that is. The email dictation tool will certainly have a place and we can see for longer emails it being a quite nice feature. Reports of its accuracy are also quite good, which means it's a functional, feasible addition to the iPad. Of course, we're sure Groupon UK will have numerous aids for it in time.

4G

The new super-quick LTE broadband is not yet available in the UK, but Apple has provided it, future proofing the tablet for when it comes online in 2013 supposedly. The New iPad does have faster 3G protocols, meaning we can still download faster than we did previously. This will be fantastic for those who wish to stream the very highest definition to their iPads and ideal for those who took advantage of the long term LoveFilm and NetFlix subscriptions that let them do so where ever they are. However, we'll just have to wait until the future comes before enjoying such luxuries.

The History of the Birthstone

The birthstone is a common present for birthdays. These stones can be given alone, though are generally placed in beautiful jewellery of all sorts and make the perfect present for anyone celebrating their birthday.

The origin of the birthstone began with the bible and is associated with Moses's brother Aaron. Aaron is claimed to have worn a breastplate that represented the Twelve Tribes of Israel and on this plate were 12 gems - one for each. These stones were placed across the plate in rows of three by four.

Deeper Links

However, the links between the birthstone and nowadays are not early as clear as just Judaeo-Christian links and they are used in association with the zodiac, which is said to have come about around the first century AD. The stones were connected by a couple of saints understanding them to have certain virtues and powers and it was then considered that each would be able to help out with particular problems, or ailments when worn at a certain time. Group on often provides such gifts for birthdays.

Others believe that the birthstone was actually a stone that emanated from an Indian religion, called the Vedic Astrological tradition. This was an ancient, astrological tradition and looked towards the 12 signs of the Zodiac for inspiration. These peoples wore stones for ailments and luck in the hope of benefiting.

Modern Times

However, even with these links, it was not really until about 2000 years later that the birthstone became what it now is. The modern day link of a stone with a birthday is said to have come about with the coming of Jewish traders to Poland in the 19th century. These people sold gems for particular months, however though this went on for years and spread across continents, it wasn't until 1912 that a list of gemstones for birthdays was introduced. Fortunately, all of the list can be gotten often on Groupon groupon.

This list was drawn up over 100 years ago and has only been changed twice, though both of these changes came about in recent times and had amazingly to do with the introduction of the same stone on both occasions - tanzanite. The gem was now a new December gem, though not all traders agreed with its introduction.

Today

It is understood by some that the addition of new stones is there to only drum up money for the industry and has no basis. It would also hint at the fact that there are no super powers to be gained from the use of these gems - fortunate for those that don't have them so.

Tanzanite has not only been in the news as a monthly birthstone and in 2006 was pushed as the gemstone for all birthdays. The companies selling these gems were hoping that the gift of one of these stones would be given to all children regardless of their star sign or when they were born - a money making scheme?

Gifts

Birthstones have a long and quite mixed history and though there is an element of profiteering on people's birthdates, they do make wonderful gifts. From rings with these stones, to bracelets, these stones can really make a person's day.

Looking through daily deals sites and keeping an eye out for London daily deals, such as groupon.co.uk as they can really provide a great gift for someone, at a low cost price.

People love the thought involved with such gifts. Purchasing a loved one a birthstone is something even more personal than actually just giving someone jewellery. Great, birthstone jewellery from daily deal sites is something personal, and close to a person's heart and something they will always think of you, when they look at.

So, for the next person you want to treat, look at their stone and then give them a gift that will last a lifetime.

Time to fix up the home

Those who invest in a conservatory will be looking forward to both the long summer days they spend in it as well as the clear winter nights where they can gaze at the stars.

Conservatories are hard to choose and there are numerous variations in terms of style and also practical differences that also must be made. One of the biggest of these is the choice of heating in the new area. Generally, with the improvements in glass and other materials the conservatory has improved in terms of heating and insulation.

Double and triple glazed glass can really keep the heat in, but when compared to a newly insulated wall still lack to an extent. This is where the addition of blinds and groupons come in. With a mixture of these you can find the perfect covering for your windows, that not only makes you home more attractive, but also saves on your energy bills. These blinds are also fantastic for the bright days of summer as they manage to keep the light out - perfect for those of us who love a snooze now and again.

Under floor Heating

One of the issues of living in this area of the Northern Hemisphere is that no matter how many blinds and how much insulation you have you will have to have some form of heating system in your conservatory.

One of the most comforting of these during the long winters is the under floor heating system. This heating system offers a luxurious feel and is also a very practical heating option that can fill your conservatory with warmth. It's also practical in the sense that you won't have to look into places to hang radiators, which can often be a little unsightly and take up space in your new area, as well as cluttering it up.

Under floor heating is easily added and only requires a 13 amp socket. The heat spreads right through the floor, whether tile, or stone and is now even available for wooden floors. You can also simply move the temperature through the use of a thermostat.

Water Under floor Heating

Based loosely on the Roman model, this form of heating runs hot water through plastic pipes underneath your floor. The addition of this sort of heating will depend on your boiler capacity and is based on the Ancient Roman heating system we learned about in school. This model has been around for thousands of years in a loose form. It does mean you have to have a specific boiler and can take a little work, but during winter you will see it as more than worth it.

Radiators

Though, we often suggest getting your radiator seen to by a grup on deal, we would also say that the addition of a radiator can also be great for conservatories as they heat up quickly and disperse heat in a level manner and also are easily added. Electric are best as you won't have to worry about boiler capacity. Do think about how they will look in the spacious room, as you will want an uncluttered conservatory for your home.

Wood Stoves

It's also possible to place a wood burning stove in your conservatory, though this will often be the cause of problems with ventilation. If you want to, it is best to consult a specialist in the area. You may need to fit a flue, which can be troublesome in a conservatory and means it must be double insulated. Perhaps, use a specialist from a daily deal site like Groupon UK if you find one as they are usually offering services at a discount.

Plug-in Heaters

This is probably the least advised option from our side as these can often be unsightly and clutter up your new area. They can be moved out when no needed, but are quite heavy on electricity and aren't a enduring solution.

Camping on the Cheap

For those looking to get back to nature, what could be any better than a great camping trip to the great outdoors. Fortunately, camping is not both in vogue, but it's also a low cost and fun way to get away from it all. The mix of a recession and just the fact it's a great way of getting away from the mobile phone that seems to strangle us, has seen camping's rise to the top grow significantly.

For those who wish to save money, then camping is probably the ideal way to get away. However, there are even more ways to save on your trips if you take a look at our tips and keep a look out for great groupon London deals.

Fire

From the beginning of time, the camp fire has been one of the most important parts of such a retreat and there are a number of things you can do to have a comfortable low cost fire around your site. For those of us who want a fire but are afraid of our matches getting wet, simply place the matches in paraffin, or nail polish. This prevents them from getting wet and means you'll be able to start a fire at all times. Sawdust and paraffin in a paper cup is also a great way to replace your fire starters in a cost effective manner. Old prescription boxes are also great for keeping matches dry and old wire coat hangers are a fantastic way to hang lanterns out of trees. You can also use the prescription boxes for batteries.

Camp Cuisine

Money is often spent on unnecessary food on camping trips and this can really eat into a budget. Making food at home and bringing it with you can really push down such costs and ensure you are not only saving money on food, but also on plastic equipment. Ziplock bags can be great for saving on bowls, whereas old butter containers make the perfect storage option for food.

Those of us who like to pile up our plate may find the traditional paper plate sags a little. Add a Frisbee underneath for strength. Baking soda is also great for cleaning when on camping trips and rids the place of smells.

Sleep

Sleep is important for your trip and without it of course you may never want to go camping again. Invest in a good sleeping bag, as if you're not in your shoes you're in your bag. Don't scrimp as you will end up paying for it. Low cost bags seldom have the tog of more expensive bags and will lose heat during the night, which of course means sleep is all the harder. Groupon England often provides such items for a great night's sleep, so if you see them invest.

Purchase a good pair of shoes too, also invest in warm socks. There is nothing as miserable as cold, wet feet. Smearing soap on the socks can also mean they is a lot less frication from toe to heel in the boot and ensures no blisters. Great boots are found on all sorts of London deals sites - so have a look at your inbox each morning.

Camp

Looking after the camp is of course very important and duct tape is the essential here. Duct tape can be sued to repair almost anything, from tents, to pegs and so is an essential for holding your camp and weekend together.

Tin foil is also a great addition and is a great insulator for water and food. It's also perfect for the fishermen among us and keeps tackle together in an easy to wrap manner. It's great for damp cleaning items like soap and prevents it from wetting other camping kit - zip lock bags again also have a place here.

By being a little creative, doing some research and using items from around the house, you don't have to pander to the expensive camping shops and can have a great weekend out for little cost.

How Equestrian Clothing Influenced Fashion

From the start of premium fashion ranges, equestrian clothing has had a quite central position. That said most sportswear has had a very central role in fashion. For equestrian sports however, there is one thing they have others often don't - a sense of style and function from the start - making them desirable to many as brands.

Hunter Boots

Hunters began life in the 19th century in Scotland and have been as still are one of the central items to equestrian fashion's mainstream success and are often seen on Edinburgh deals. The once North British Rubber Company, began life as a tyre production company and this did not change until the introduction of the green Wellington boot in 1955.

This boot is still sold in its original form and is the one used by the Royal Households. The boots main benefit is that it is extremely comfortable for a Wellington boot and so it became the choice for equestrian events and upmarket fashion. Hunters have become world famous and have had associations with everyone from Jimmy Choo, to numerous other fashion houses. The fact they are also very functional has seen them used among a variety of people for functional use too and as we all know on the music festival circuit. The daily deals sites such as KGB deals and others often sell these items at a reduced price, so it's worth keeping a look out.

Barbour

Barbour jackets are also a country orientated English brand with a traditional feel and have had significant mainstream success with their items. The company has had a range of very successful items, however, it's the quilted jacket that probably stands out foremost. This jacket is as familiar on the marshes across the UK as it is on the high street and has really made a significant transition.

Barbour has managed to make this change over by associating itself with both the British tradition, but also with a younger and cooler image. This mix has seen it keep its practical values, yet means it is still seen as cool by the young crowd. For instance the jacket still has wider pockets than most jackets - used for game and hunting, but most on the high street use them for their larger phones. Barbour is one of the best known British brands and continues to rise from strength to strength.

Polo Shirt

The polo shirt also arose from equestrian events, as you may hyave guessed from its name. The polo came about when Rene Lacoste decided that he had enough of the heavy materials he had to compete in during tennis tournaments.

Lacoste, who had been a championship tennis player, decided a white shirt with a short sleeve and flat edged collar was best for comfort and for playing in for practical reasons. He created what was known as the polo shirt, as similar shirts were used in polo matches. This was released in 1933 and used for both polo and tennis for decades. However, it was not until 1972 that Ralph Lauren decided to use it in his collection. Obviously from there onwards it became a staple for not just Lauren, but also for the world of clothing.

Polo players still use the shirt and often team it up with Hunter boots when doing so - this creates a certain look both on and off the pitch and is mainstream to an extent.

There is little doubt that equestrian clothing has made its way into the world of the normal person and has played a role that is equally as important as golf in this area. Keep a look out for Edinburgh, or Glasgow deals in this area and you too can look great for less, on horseback, or on the high street.

Have you Heard of Yarnbombing?

You may have heard of yarnbombing, or you may not. It sounds like some middle eastern strategy employed by the USA, though it's far from that. Yarnbombing is a form of street art that involves wool and ugly structures and some creativity - of course.

Essentially, yarnbombing the creation of covers for the uglier objects we see on the street, all made out of colourful wool. It's really a form of tea cosy graffiti and can really brighten up the dullest and most unattractive of areas.

Rise of Wool

Knitting has become a significantly common pastime in the last ten years. In fact, in the UK numerous stores have reported 50 per cent growths year on year in wool sales - amazing in a recession.

Obviously, the low cost and productive nature of the knitting means it is beneficial in terms of time and also in terms of money. In the current climate this has seen it become common and it is seldom you won't see someone knitting when out and about on public transport.

Cool

One of the reasons knitting has hit the mainstream is the fact it is considered an uber cool trend by the hip young things around the world. Once the preserve of the older generations, knitting has been given a new life through its popularity with younger folk. However, they don't all knit jumpers.

Yarnbombing

Yarnbombing is the knitting of covers for ugly looking items in public and is in fact a movement that many have joined. It began in the Netherlands in 2003 and spread throughout the world shortly after.

Initially, the yarnbombs were created by the unfinished combined projects of knitting groups. These would then be placed over certain public items, from statues, to bus stops. One of the first ladies to do it came from Houston, Texas and began knitting handle cosies for her door handles. The idea spread across the world, through the Internet and there are examples of it throughout cities the world over.

International

This international acclaim has seen the rise of numerous knitting clubs and daily deals sites have latched on with daily deals being offered in knitting classes. There is also an official Yarnbombing day, recognised internationally on the 11th of June each year.

Unlike graffiti, Yarnbombing is not seen as a criminal activity in most areas of the world. It is also seen to have been a huge part of the things that made knitting hip and is there to add colour to things, that may initially be ugly.

Yarnbombing can also be easily removed and doesn't last for long. Though, it is technically illegal these factors mean it is often overlooked as a criminal activity. The perception of other street art greatly differs from yarnbombing and hence, yarnbombing is quite popular as it is overlooked as crime.

Where

Like all knitting, crocheting is the main part of yarnbombing and it is not uncommon to see it over bike racks, on bus stops and over telephone boxes. Some versions of this can be a lot more extravagant than others.

Of course, by undergoing a groupon Belfast deal in learning to knit, you can become all the better and perhaps even begin your own yarnbombing.

Amazingly, there is even a philosophy to the whole yarnbombing aspect of things. Those who contribute to the movement call themselves ' fibre artists' and their aim is to get people looking at the usual in an unusual way.

Yarnbombing has no decisive political message however and so is also tolerated the world over. If this were to change, it mightn't be seen as nearly as popular. Knitta the City and Knitta Please are the two most common groups who take part in Yarnbombing on an organised scale. Though, if you get enough people at your Belfast deals meeting for knitting, perhaps you can start up one of your own.
